6′7″, 350lb+ Man Gets Stuck In Lamborghini, Hilarity Ensues

Alright, so I ball-parked his measurements just based on what I could see, but once he’s finally freed from the Lambo, you’ll realize that he really is easily as big as Andre the Giant. Video Bonus: Friend onscreen spends a full 30 seconds watching in stunned silence before he recovers enough to help.

The 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera[s]: The 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse

For 2009, Porsche is unleashing German fury on the road with new upgrades for 4 of its Porsche 911 Carrera models: the Carrera, Carrera S, Carrera 4, and Carrera 4S. Going semi-green for 2009, the Carrera’s 3.6L and 3.8L engines receive new direct-inject engines, boosting fuel economy by about 15% and net power by another 20. Although still available in the AWD Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S, Porsche’s 5-sp Tiptronic automatic transmission will be replaced in the Carrera and Carrera S models with Porsche’s new 7-sp Porsche Doppel Kupplung [PDK] dual-clutch sequential-manual transmission - the one of racing-legends told. The much-anticipated Pretty Damn Kwik [we're sorry, it was a softball lobbed right down the middle, we had to swing] transmission is expected to out-perform the Tiptronic S thanks to 2 more forward ratios, shaving roughly 0.8 seconds off the Carrera’s 0-60 mph acceleration time.

An optional Sport Chrono Package [when used in conjunction with the PDK] provides the driver with three different handling levels - Normal, Sport, and Sportplus. When Sportplus is engaged, “Launch Control” is initiated, providing dually for 0.2 second faster 0-60mph acceleration as well as a cheaper alternative to the old lady’s Botox [see: "G-Force"].

BMW Celebrates 30 years of Design with New M1 Concept

BMWM1Concept-4.jpg picture by willfusion

In celebration of 30 years BMW bestowed upon the M1 and the many fans who adore it a gift in orange and alloy. What you are looking at above is not a mere rendition of what a redesign of the M1 would look like, as animated as it appears to be. It is a physical reality that may be more study than reality, but truly does capture the spirit that drove the two preceding designs.

The new M1 concept car was received by those attending the Concorso d’Eleganza at Vista d’Este this weekend, where you will see in the photos of the gallery that it was joined by its 2 brothers. While what we see here may be just a concept it does reinforce the knowledge there are still people around today who can produce superlative designs such as this. To anyone’s knowledge thus far the 30 year anniversary M1 concept is merely a shell as no hint of a motive source or interior contents were exposed as its single outing.

Rekindling the knife’s-edge sharpness of the two prior designs tip of the hood the new M1 begins just as all others, with the two kidney shaped grill bookended by sinister headlamps. The contours of the body reflect well on the Giugiaro-designed M1 that followed up on the original M1 designed by Paul Bracq. The tribute follows suit from front to rear concluding with the louvered rear window and the dual BMW badging over-top of the rear break lamps.

Take a look at the gallery after the leap and join BMW in celebrating 30 years of M1 design. (more…)

Mitsuoka’s LHD Orichi is the Latest Supercar Export from Japan

mitsuokiorochi-5.jpg picture by willfusion

After stepping out with their first supercar at the Tokyo Auto Show in 2007, a left hand drive version of the Mitsuoka Orochi is ready to stretch its wheels beyond the borders and across the Sea of Japan. But do not get your hopes up Americans, as so far the plans are only for a few particularly wealthy countries in the Middle East and Thailand.

The Orochi was originally built and sold just in Japan, but after being approached by a wealthy collector out of Qatar Mitsuoka decided to engineer the Orochi for sale outside of Japan. Hmmm… I wonder what kind of persuasion was used by said wealthy tycoon from Qatar? Other Middle Easter countries to receive the LHD Orochi are Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

The grinning snakes head front end of the Orochi is certainly a unique design, if not slightly cartoonish. It does maintain a sleek performance appearance housed around a questionable Toyota 3.3 liter V6 powerplant. However, with light-weight construction there may be plenty to surprise from the mid-engined Orochi. It would fit right in with what the Wachowski Brothers are using in the latest Speed Racer Movie.

Be sure to check out the Photo Gallery and Video footage of the Orochi after the leap. (more…)

The Green Mile vs. the Quarter Mile; EPA vs. Horsepower

There is a conflict brewing in the auto industry and it is not just with the designers and decision makers. The conflict is in the consumer as well. There are Green forces that are encouraging us to want fuel efficient, low emissions vehicles while at the same time there are Performance forces that encourage us to desire the vehicle that goes faster or hauls more. It is a Frosted Mini Wheat of a conundrum and until there are sufficient cars on the road that satisfy our Frosted Side for performance and our healthy Wheat side with low environmental impact we are going to continue to have this fight.

According to Wards Auto  (via the Motor Authority) the EPA, the federal agency that regulates emissions and determines MPG ratings for cars (among other tasks), is calling for an end to the horsepower wars that they see being waged within the auto industry. Apparently the Gas Guzzler Tax that is slapped on high horsepower and low fuel mileage cars is not deterrent enough. They are calling on the auto industry to scull back the horsepower battle and to refocus their energies on Greener projects. (more…)
